Day 38- Where are all the ladies at?
School today was pretty school-ish…I.e., we learned (more!) new vocabulary words and had another grammer lesson- nothing out of the ordinary, although I actually (think) that I understood today’s lesson which is a huge shock for me!! We then went to lunch (and grabbed some ice cream, yum!) and left early to…
Meet the former secretary of Culture, at The Higher Council for Science and Technology. It was an interesting(ish) experience, and we got neat folders and key-chains. The funniest part (in my opinion) is that we were told to dress up and when we got to school Dr. Ghada was so shocked to see us dressed up she wanted to get a camera to take pictures!! I thought that was pretty funny…
Today, among other things, we came to an interesting conclusion- there are no women anywhere. No joke- for example, we passed a long line of people waiting for the bus and for each woman there were literally 5+ men. We were at the grocery store, and looked around, and the only women we saw were Western. This led us to believe that either A.) Jordanian women don’t exist or B.) they are like moths in the daytime. We are leaning towards the latter, but who knows…?
We also tried to buy plane tickets to Israel today for after the program finishes and a hotel room for our down time, but in true style the Visa machine wasn’t working at the Royal Jordanian office (they said to come back tomorrow) and the reservation man wasn’t working at the hotel (they said to come back tomorrow). SO, in conclusion, we’re going to try and go back tomorrow to finish what we tried to do today. On the bright side, however, we did get back down to our favorite grocery store (Cozmo) and got to stock up on all the essentials (more Ramen noodles, bread, cereal, and cookies! Yum!) Our cabinents, what with the new food and clean laundry, have never looked so full!
